Industrial Technology

A different form of expression is available in the Industrial Technology Education Department. While many students think of department as meaning just “shop” classes, there is a tremendous amount of “TECHNOLOGY” taught in each class.

Classes include:

  • Exploratory Woodworking

  • Modern Furniture Design

  • Carpentry & Building Construction

  • Introduction to Welding

  • Welding & Fabrication

  • Small Engines

  • PLTW (Project Lead the Way) classes: Intro to Engineering Design Civil Engineering Design & Architecture Principles of Engineering

Students have the opportunity to enter projects into the MITES (Michigan Industrial Technology Education Society) competition. www.MITES.cc

PLTW (Project Lead the Way) is about applying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the "right" answer. They learn how to apply STEM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to make the world a better place through innovation.

At Central, you can join a network of PLTW students that have said PLTW Engineering influenced their post-secondary decisions and helped shape their future. Even students who do not plan to pursue engineering after high school, the PLTW Engineering program provides opportunities to develop highly transferable skills in collaboration, communication and critical thinking which are relevant for any coursework or career.
